By now, many of you will have heard of the health struggles going on in the Smith Family.  Briefly, during the past week, Curtis had a heart procedure done, followed by a one-night stay in the hospital.  Danny, the son, fell and shattered his kneecap, and Pat had a heart attack leading to two stents being put in and a short stay in the hospital as well.  This family (all home now) has been through a LOT this week; prayers are appreciated!

The Gregg County Fair is underway now, and I spent Friday evening there.  While there, I had some time to read some of our new brochures.  One in particular held my attention, and I'd like to share the story told in it.  It is called "Conceived in Rape: A Story of Hope".  This brochure tells the story of Rebecca Kiessling, whose mother was a victim of rape in 1968.  Read about her mother's attempts at "back-alley" abortions, and the decisions she faced, leading to the baby being born.  She kept the baby and eventually told Rebecca the truth about her birth circumstances.  In her story, Rebecca talks about her reactions and how she overcame all the negativity and learned, in her words, that she "was not a child of rape, but a child of God".  For a look at a fuller version of this story, go to Rebecca's Story.

The annual Life Chain takes place on the first Sunday in October.  Those of you in the Longview area who would like to come "Stand for Life" can meet at the corner of Loop 281 and McCann Road.  I'll be in the Hobby Lobby parking lot with signs, and there should be someone on the other corners too.  The LIfe Chain is from 2:00 till 3:00.  If you are not in Longview, and would like to have a Lief Chain in your area (or even if you already do), and are in need of signs, let me know and I'll arrange for you to get them.  If your pastor doesn't know about the Life Chain, fill him in.  He can call me if he wants to find our more.

COME TO THE FAIR - It's not too late to help!
The Gregg County Fair will be held in Longview from Friday September 6th till Friday September 14th.  Once again, Right to Life of East Texas will have a booth with information on the organization; pamphlets with information to help visitors to the booth better understand the realities of abortion, euthanasia, adoption, and other life-affirming choices; and someone present to answer questions and help others get involved in the mission.

If you would like to help man the booth during the fair, call or text Pat Smith at 903-240-1635.  Bring a friend or two and have a night at the fair!
